May 13, 2024

On Friday May 10th, UCDisarm and the Disarmament and Security Centre (DSC) hosted an event at the University of Canterbury. The event was focused on peace and disarmament opportunities in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad.

Lucy Stewart, DSC Programme Manager, and Angela Woodward, Deputy Director of VERTIC, were the two guest speakers. They spoke about a range of topics related to disarmament and possible career paths, such as the work that New Zealand carries out on disarmament issues, nationally and abroad, NZ's history in the field, opportunities for the students to get involved with - study resources and options, potential funding streams, internship opportunities, and potential career paths to explore. The students had lots of questions and were keen for a follow up session.

It was great to see so many young people interested in disarmament issues and we look forward to being back on campus. If you'd like to join the club, do get in touch!
