On Friday April 4th, UCDisarm held a film night on campus in Undercroft 101. We were very privileged to hold the NZ premiere of a new documentary by Aigerim Seitenova called JARA Radioactive Patriarchy - the Women of Qazaqstan. This powerful documentary was produced, filmed and edited by Ms Seitenova and tells the story of multiple generations of women in her family who have been negatively affected by the nuclear testing that happened in their region by the Soviet regime. Seitenova joined us via Zoom to introduce and film and then for a Q & A session afterwards. The students were incredibly moved by the film and this resulted in a very engaged Q & A. We are very thankful to Ms Seitenova for generously allowing us to show her film and for sharing her story, and those of her family members.
